Appazur is Hiring! Backend Developer (Python) in North Vancouver

Appazur Solutions Inc. is seeking a talented backend developer to join their growing team. The developer will be a key player at this exciting EdTech company that is helping schools all over North America leverage mobile technology to improve student success and parent engagement. The applicant has a passion for education and educational technology.

Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and testing new backend features and REST APIs that support iOS, Android, and web apps. Work with a current software stack including Python, Django, MySQL, Redis and Celery. Ensure code quality through unit testing and code review. Reproduce and debug reported defects. Contribute to documentation using HTML and markdown. Fast-paced environment where features and fixes are deployed to production continuously.

You’ll work directly with the management team and bring new features to life every month.

Skills & Requirements

  • Team player with ability to work independently in a startup environment.
  • Track record of learning and adapting to new technologies quickly.
  • Relevant 4 year degree (or equivalent) e.g. Computer Science
  • Experience working with linux and shell commands, and Python 2 or 3.
  • Experience with Django (or similar non-compiled web framework), Celery (or other asynchronous task queue), MySQL (or PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, and REST APIs.
  • Ability to design and debug back-end code and understand the impact on front-end code and the user experience.
  • Experience with git or other version control systems.

Extra Credit

  • Specific experience with our Django stack.
  • Experience developing unit test coverage for complex web apps.
  • Experience with asynchronous task queues.
  • Knowledge of web services technologies such as HTTPS, OAuth, and SSO.
  • Experience with other technologies we use such as Xamarin/Visual Studio, XCode, Fastlane, C#, Ruby, and iOS, Android, or Chrome app development.
  • Contributions to open source projects

The applicant must be detail-oriented and have excellent problem solving skills. The application must have an ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as to work effectively in a team (we work in person and remotely via Slack messaging) and demonstrate excellent communication.

This full-time position will be located in Raleigh-Durham, NC or North Vancouver, BC. Local candidates only. No relocation assistance, sponsorship or C2C arrangements available. We are not able to work with candidates on H1B Visas or candidates represented by third parties.
