Summary

Use your organization’s Google Admin Console to prepare for deployment of new Managed ChromeBoxes with Appazur Digital Signage. Your devices will start showing the correct content as soon as they connect to the specified Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.

If your organization does not have Google G Suite / Google for Education, or you do not have access to your Google Admin Console, then this may not be a suitable procedure for you. Please check with Appazur support ([email protected]).

Recommended hardware:  AOpen Chromebox, ASUS ChromeBox or ASUS ChromeBit. ChromeBit devices may not be suitable for video.

For example, this is what a typical Appazur JSON configuration file looks like:

Create Organization Unit(s)

Create a "signage" Organization Unit (OU). This can be done under Users or under Chrome Devices, but the latter is not available until licenses have been purchased.

If your organization is a school district you create an additional OU for each school under the “signage” OU. You only need to include the schools that will be using digital signage.

If necessary, at the top, click Filter to open your organization tree on the left. Hover over the organization you want to place your organization under. Then, click More and then Add sub organization.

Configure Chrome Management for “signage” OU

Configure the following. At the time of this writing the underlined text indicates where each setting is in the Google Admin Console.

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > User Settings

Working with the “signage” OU choose:

Place Device in User Organization during manual enrollment

Save.

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > App Management

Assuming the Appazur Kiosk app has not been installed in this Chrome environment, you may see “no apps installed”.  Under Find or Update Apps, search for “appazur”.  This should display a list of Appazur Chrome apps including “Appazur Kiosk”.  

Choose Appazur Kiosk and then Kiosk settings - This jumps to…

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > App Management > Appazur Kiosk 

Working with the "signage" OU:

Turn on "Install automatically" and "Allow app to manage power".

Save.

Now follow suggested link to the device settings page

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > Device Settings

(Note: You cannot see this menu until you have at least one ChromeOS license)

Working with the “signage” OU

Leave as "Force device to re-enroll"

Set "Disabled device return instructions".  This may be “Contact [email protected] for more information” or you may prefer your own support contact message.

Set “Restrict Google Chrome version to at most” to “no restriction”. (Optionally consult with Appazur Support on keeping this set to latest validated version.)

In "Auto-Launch Kiosk App", select Appazur Kiosk. Enable device health monitoring. It is also strongly recommended to enable device system log upload (this requires acknowledging that you notified users however this may not be applicable to digital signage).

Set "Receive alert via email" and set "Kiosk Device Status Alerting Emails" to kioskalert@apzr.co. Here you may wish to add your own email address, however be aware that the Appazur system also has an email alert for you that may be easier to manage, and you may not want to get redundant alerts from both sources.

Under “Power & Shutdown” choose “Do not allow to sleep when idle on the sign-in screen”. This is recommended simply to avoid confusion during initial setup. Set "Scheduled Reboot" to 1 (once per day).

Under “Other” Set “System Timezone” to your time zone.

Save.

 

Configure Kiosk App for each school OU

Return to:

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > App Management

Choose Appazur Kiosk and then Kiosk settings - This jumps to…

Device Management > Chrome [Management] > App Management > Appazur Kiosk 

Now work with the individual school OU that you created beneath “signage”.

Choose “UPLOAD CONFIGURATION FILE”. Select the .json file you received from Appazur for this school.

Save.

        

Optional: Configure Wi-Fi

If any of the schools do not have an Ethernet connection to any display and so would like to use the devices on Wi-Fi, configure the appropriate settings in the Admin Console for either the “signage” domain or specific settings per school.

Optional: Create user account(s) for enrollment purposes

This step is not needed if you will be enrolling devices yourself. When you enroll the devices with your own account you will need to use the admin console to move each device to the correct OU.

To streamline device setup simply create a new user under each school OU, for example “[email protected]”. This helps by having the device move to the correct OU upon enrollment. The disadvantage is you may need to configure your email system to forward this email to a suitable place.
